NFL Lines-Week 2 Player Matchups To Watch

Posted by Brett Nielson on 9/18/2011 12:22:04 PM

A breakdown of the top matchups to watch for week 2 of the 2011 NFL lines season.

1. Baltimore Ravens vs Tennessee Titans

Ray Lewis vs Matt Hasselbeck

In week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for over 250 yards, for 2 touchdowns and one interception. In his first  NFL lines season with the Titans, Hasselbeck has already developed some great chemistry with receiver Kenny Britt, who had an explosive start to the year finishing the game against the Jaguars with five catches, 135 yards and scoring both of his team`s touchdowns.

Hasselbeck`s week 2 rival Ray Lewis is a 16-year NFL veteran, and a widely respected linebacker who plays the game with a fiery passion. During the Ravens` opening game against the Steelers, Lewis had seven tackles and one interception against Ben Roethlisberger. Look for Lewis` fierce passion and athleticism to trump Hasselbeck.

Advantage : Ray Lewis

2. Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions

Brandon Flowers vs Calvin Johnson

During last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Brandon Flowers was exposed by the skillful tandem of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Stevie Johnson. However, this weekend will be an even sterner test for Flowers, who will be up against one of the league`s best wide receivers in Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions.

During his team`s opening game against the Buccaneers,  Johnson caught six passes for 88 yards, en route to scoring two touchdowns.

Size may play a significant factor in this matchup as Johnson stands at a gigantic 6`5``, while Flowers stands at a modest 5`9``. Flowers will have tall order to try and outfox the larger and stronger Johnson.

Advantage : Calvin Johnson

3. Chicago Bears vs New Orleans Saints

Brian Urlacher vs Drew Brees

Urlacher is expected to play this Sunday against the Saints, after there was some uncertainty due to the recent passing of his mother last Monday.  During the Bears opener against the Falcons, Urlacher had an outstanding game, finishing with ten tackles, one interception, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown.

Brees opening performance stood in parallel, as the Saints quarterback threw for 400 yards and three touchdowns.

During the last three meetings between Urlacher and Brees, it was Urlacher`s Bears that have been victorious. Urlacher really seems to have the Saints` quarterback`s number, and I wouldn`t bet against his winning streak this Sunday.

Advantage : Brian Urlacher
