NFL Lines – Jets acquire Tebow

The Denver Broncos have traded NFL lines quarterback Tim Tebow to the New York Jets for a fourth-round and sixth–round pick in 2012.

Tebow currently has three years remaining on his contract, with a current salary base of $1.1 million. He will now be vying with Mark Sanchez for a starting position in New York. The signing of Tebow is a dubious move by the New York Jets, who only two weeks ago re-signed their starting NFL lines quarterback Mark Sanchez to three-year, $40 million contract extension. Last week, the Jets also signed Drew Stanton as their number 2 quarterback. Many Jets fans will be left wondering why in fact their team did sign another quarterback, even though Sanchez did have a sub-par NFL lines season last year. Tim Tebow in fact actually has a few important things to offer to this New York Jets team, and will address some of their needs in crucial areas.

Efficient Running Game
Tebow would bring another dimension to the Jets offense, in that he will bring a sold running game to New York, an area the Jets have been lacking in recent years. Their only truly effective running-back is 3-year-pro Shonn Greene – who finished with just over 1,000 rushing yards and only 6 touchdowns on the ground all of last year. Tebow alone rushed for 660 yards last season, and would therefore prove a valuable asset to the Jets in this particular area.

Clean-Cut Image
As well, the signing of Tebow could prove to be a good PR move, and would provide for a more positive perception of the team after last year’s scandal surrounding the sexual harassment of a female TV-reporter and failed promises of a Super Bowl victory. Tebow’s positive character and leadership qualities should also serve to unite the Jets` locker room and provide for some inspiration. Even if Tebow is not a starter come next fall, he will still be a leader on this team.

Healthy Competition
Tebow should also provide for some healthy competition for Sanchez, and pressure him into performing better on a more consistent basis. Even though Tebow threw for 1,729 yards and 18 touchdowns last NFL lines season, he was still able to lead his team into the playoffs. He is always a viable starting option from the bench. Sanchez did not have a terrible season last year, throwing for 3,500 yards and 26 touchdowns, but he still under-performed and failed to lead his team into the postseason.
