NFL Lines – Jacksonville Jaguars Host Tennessee Titans

The heated rivalry between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans will start this NFL lines Sunday.

In what is surely to be the most shocking roster move of this NFL lines year the Jacksonville Jaguars released starting quarterback David Garrard just days before their regular season opener.

Garrard – who was named the Jaguars’ starting quarterback just hours before he got cut – was released this Tuesday after a poor practice. Apparently Jacksonville had given the 33-year-old signal caller many chances during last season and this offseason, and the lackluster practice (in which he threw three interceptions) was the last straw for head coach Jack Del Rio.

Now with David Garrard off the roster, the Jaguars might be left with the worst passing offense in the entire NFL. According to team statements, 30-year-old Luke McCown (of whom has never played more that five games in a season during his entire eight-year career) will take the realm come Sunday. That basically leaves them with wide receiver Mike Thomas as their biggest offensive threat, considering that the Jags chose not to re-sign their top wideout Mike Sims-Walker when his contract expired at the end of last NFL lines season.

Fortunately for Jacksonville, their opponents in Week 1 also have a very poor passing offense.

The Tennessee Titans lost their two starting quarterbacks (Vince Young and Kerry Collins) this offseason and were forced to sign 35-year-old free agent Matt Hasselbeck.

In his 14-game stint with the Seattle Seahawks last NFL lines season, Hasselbeck failed to impress anybody in the slightest, causing his release in December. The 13-year-pro completed less than 60 percent of his passes last year, throwing for 17 interceptions and just 12 touchdowns.

Now he has been declared as Tennessee’s starting quarterback while the Titans groom rookie Jake Locker. However, I don’t see Hasselbeck really accomplishing anything – at least in Week 1 – as the Titans have not even practiced will their full roster for more than a week.

Expect whichever team who scores first to win the NFL lines matchup, as the other will be forced to play catch-up through the air, but will not have the resources or chemistry to do so.

Marcello’s Prediction: Tennessee Titans: 14, Jacksonville Jaguars: 10

Messina Mention: What would the odds have been in June to bet on Luke McCown and Kevin Kolb starting the season while Brett Favre and Peyton Manning miss the opener?

NFL Expert Pick: Tennessee Titans +2
