The San Francisco 49ers prepare for their first NFL expert pick game of the season without elite running back Frank Gore.

NFL Expert Pick
San Francisco 49ers +9.5
Green Bay Packers -9.5
Total 41.5

This NFL expert pick Sunday will be the first time in over a year that San Francisco is forced to play a game sans their 2-time Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore.

As I previously stated, Frank Gore is practically the 49ers’ offense.

Prior to last week’s Monday Night Football matchup against Arizona, Gore had carried the ball 198 times this NFL expert pick season, averaging 4 yards per carry, and totaling 801 yards in just 11 games.

While also being a threat on the ground, Gore was a monster in San Francisco’s passing game.

He ranked first among all NFL running back in receiving with 46 receptions at 9.8 yards per catch, reaching 450 yards. Gore was the most targeted back in the league and had the third-highest YAC of all running backs.

Last week, Gore went down with a fractured right hip on the 49ers first drive and sat out the remainder of the game. Gore was placed on injured reserve early Tuesday morning, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Fortunately for the 49ers, a new running back emerged in last week’s NFL expert pick game.

San Francisco acquired 31-year-old tailback Brian Westbrook during the offseason and Westbrook will need to be a playmaker to push the 49ers into an improbable playoff berth.

In relief of Gore on Monday night, Westbrook rushed for 136 yards on 23 attempts and scored a rushing touchdown early in the second quarter to put the 49ers up by 18.

Prior to Gore’s injury, 49ers head coach Mike Singletary already stated that he wanted to incorporate Westbrook more in the team’s offense for the remainder of this NFL expert pick season. Good timing, right?

Westbrook should fill in nicely, as he showed that he’s still got a lot left in the tank – even at 31. Well-known for his receiving abilities out of the backfield, he will be a good fit in the 49ers offense.

Expect San Francisco to hang with Green Bay and cover +9.5.

NFL Expert Pick: Take 49ers (+9.5) and Over (41.5)
