NFL Betting Online - Week 5 - New York Giants at Houston Texans

Posted by Marcello Messina on 10/9/2010 12:05:50 AM

The NFL betting online spread for picking the Texans (-3) is so low mainly because Andre Johnson, Jacoby Jones and Owen Daniels are all questionable. But fear not, Houston will prevail against the Giants.

(2-2) New York Giants at (3-1) Houston Texans

Kickoff: 1:00 PM EST Sunday, October 10, 2010
Broadcast: FOX

NorthBet NFL Game Odds:
Houston Texans -3
New York Giants +3
Total 47.5

ESPN's Jenny Dell breaks down this game by the numbers.

Although they haven't been able to capitilize, New York has been blessed with a favorable schedule so far, with the Indianapolis Colts being their toughest opponent. In Weeks 1,3, and 4, the Giants faced teams led by quarterbacks like Matt Moore (benched), Vince Young (benched) , and a Jay Cutler/Todd Collins/Caleb Hanie combo.

So do not let their second-ranked pass defense fool you. In their only true test against an elite quarterback, the Giants gave up 255 passing yards and 3 touchdowns to Peyton Manning, losing the game 38-14.

Last week, in the absence of Andre Johnson, the Texans found a few new threats in their already potent offense. While Owen Daniels and Jacoby Jones were recovering from injuries, Joel Dreessen, Kevin Walter and Arian Foster greatly stepped up their games. Quarterback Matt Schaub managed to throw for 195 yards and two touchdowns, beating the Oakland Raiders 31-24.

Expect Schaub and Co. to have no trouble exploiting New York's overrated secondary.

Not only will Houston's passing game thrive this NFL betting online Sunday, but their running game will also prove to be very effective.

Since the first time he stepped on the field this season, Texans running back Arian Foster has been tearing up opposing defenses.

Foster currently ranks first overall among NFL running backs, rushing for 537 yards and four touchdowns in four games. New York is positioned 22nd overall in run defense, giving up almost 120 ground yards per game.

According to ESPN simulations, if Arian Foster runs for over 90 yards and a touchdown, the Texans have a 76% chance of winning the game.

NFL Betting Online: Houston Texans (-3).
