NFL Betting Online: Week 3 AFC North Bet – Steelers Try To Stay Unbeaten

Posted by Jackson Anthony on 10/5/2010 5:39:07 PM
I heart the Steelers so much this season that I think they are good enough to win the AFC North bet conference with or without Ben Roethlisberger.

(2-0) Pittsburgh Steelers at (2-0) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Live from Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, FL

Kickoff: 1:00 PM EST

Broadcast: CBS

NorthBet NFL Game Odds:

Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2.5

Total 33

This week the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers will face another one of the NFL’s surprising 2-0 teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Every NFL fan, including me, loves a high scoring affair but it’s refreshing to see a team like Pittsburgh resort back to a you-won’t-score-on-me-and-I’ll-kick-a-field-goal-to-beat-you mentality that has seemingly vaporized from the NFL since the Balitmore Ravens employed it in the early-2000’s.

The Steelers have the number-one ranked defense in the league, having forced eight turnovers, recording six sacks, and allowing just twenty points in two games. With their undisputed leader, Troy Polamalu, back in his usual centerfield spot on the field, nothing has gotten past the all-pro safety.

The longest play the ‘2010 Steel Curtain’ defense has given up this NFL betting online season was a 30-yard, acrobatic catch by Titans receiver Justin Gage last week, which saw him get planted by two Steelers defenders, after jumping four feet in the air to make the play.

It seems that this sort of effort, is what it may take for any NFL offense to have a play of 30 yards or more against Pittsburgh.

Without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, however, the Steelers offense has suffered, and has yet to score an offensive touchdown in regulation this season. In addition, reserve QB’s Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch have combined for just 279 yards in two games.

The Buccaneers have adopted a similar defensive mentality this year, after a dismal 3-13 regular season in 2009.

Allowing just 21 points total, the Tampa Bay defense has already forced six turnovers, albeit against two of the worst teams in the NFL, the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.

Second-year quarterback Josh Freeman has proven to be a great ‘game manager’ thus far in 2010. Freeman has a quarterback rating of 95.0, tossing two scores in each of the Buccaneers first two victories and throwing just one interception.

If the Steelers can pull of a third straight victory without their starting quarterback, they should be on course for an AFC North bet division title. A defensive affair is the call here and whoever can win the turnover battle should win the game.
