For the second time this NFL betting lines season, the Detroit Lions have lost because of a questionable call to the Chicago Bears.

In their season opener, the Lions traveled to Soldier Field in what was supposed to be an easy win for the hometown Bears.

A shoulder injury sidelined Detroit starting quarterback Matthew Stafford for the entire second half, but the Lions managed to keep control of the game.

Thanks to two touchdowns from rookie running back Jahvid Best, the Lions held a 14-13 lead until late in the fourth quarter. With just 1:32 left on the clock, Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to running back Matt Forte.

Cutler attempted a 2-point conversion pass to Devin Aromashodu, but could not convert, leaving the Bears ahead by five.

With just a minute-and-a-half remaining, backup signal-caller Shaun Hill and the Lions stepped onto the field in search of a miracle.

Hill marched 58 yards within a minute, moving from Detroit’s 17 yard line to Chicago’s 25.

He then heaved an end zone pass to wideout Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, who jumped up over the defender, caught the ball, and landed inbounds.

As Johnson stood up to celebrate the touchdown and the Lions 1-0 start to the NFL betting season, Johnson let go of the ball.

The officials ruled the touchdown was no good because Johnson had not completed the process of the catch. The Lions ended up losing the game 19-14.

Last NFL betting lines Sunday against the Bears, Detroit once again lost because of another ambiguous call.

The Lions were ahead 20-17 going into the final quarter. On their first possession of the fourth quarter, Jay Cutler and the Bears found themselves in a 3rd-and-4 situation on Detroit’s 34-yard line.

Cutler scampered 8 yards to the Lions 28-yard line, picking up a first down before he was taken down by Detroit Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Strangely, Suh was flagged for an unnecessary roughness penalty (which was immediately proven incorrect upon seeing the replay).

On the next play, Cutler threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Manumaleuna, sealing a Bears victory.

I really do feel bad for Detroit fans, having two NFL betting lines victories taken away from them against their NFC North Bet divisional rivals, the Chicago Bears.

Marcello’s Prediction: Green Bay Packers: 27 Detroit Lions: 23

Messina Mention: Detroit Lions are 5-1 ATS this season, losing only one game at home this season by more than 4 points.

NFL Expert Pick: Detroit Lions +7
