NFL Betting Lines- Mike Singletary Fired, Bet Against 49ers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary learned the hard way that success as an NFL betting lines player doesn’t guarantee success as a head coach.

Arizona Cardinals (5-10) at San Francisco 49ers (5-10)

Candlestick Park
Broadcast: FOX

NFL Betting Lines
Arizona +6.5
San Francisco -6.5
Total 38

In the first head coaching job of his career, Singletary went 18-22 overall in two and a half seasons with the 49ers. San Francisco improved from 7-9 to 8-8 over the past two years and were a heavy favorite to win the NFC West in 2010.

San Francisco however, got off to their worst start since 1979, losing their first five NFL betting lines contests. Although the 49ers have managed to go 5-5 since, I don’t think the firing of Singletary bodes well for a team, with one game remaining that already seems to lack a true leader.

Singletary did all he could as head coach of this group, but you can only go so far when your starting tailback (whom your offense revolves around) gets injured midway through the year and Alex Smith is your starting quarterback.

Smith has thrown 49 touchdowns and 52 interceptions since being drafted by the 49ers first overall in 2005.

The Arizona Cardinals have won two of three, including a 27-26 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last week.

The Cardinals main issue on defense has been their inability to stop the run. With the loss of Frank Gore the 49ers lack a back that can wear down the Cards D.

Even though Arizona ranks dead last in offensive yardage, I see them covering this NFL betting lines spread.

If Arizona’s defense can produce a couple turnovers like they did against the Cowboys they will be able to turn the NFL betting lines game over to the Beanie Wells/Tim Hightower Show rather than rely on rookie quarterback John Skelton.

NFL Betting Lines Pick – Arizona (+6.5)
