New York running back LaDainian Tomlinson will remain in New York for at least another season.

Tomlinson shut critics up last year, posting an astonishing season after showing signs of slowing down in 2009. The 31-year-old was released after 9 years with San Diego.

The Chargers management was scared that Tomlinson was past his prime when he posted his first sub-1000-yard season of his career, so he signed a two-year contract with the New York Jets.

While Tomlinson was only supposed to back up 25-year-old Shonn Greene, the aging tailback ended up stealing the show.

With only 219 carries throughout the season (the lowest total of his career), he averaged 4.2 yards per carry for 914 yards and six touchdowns. The 11-year vet became the workhorse of New York’s offense and proved to be major reason why the Jets reached the AFC Conference Final.

Tomlinson also fully expects to fulfill his contract with the Jets organization. “I would definitely like to play, no question. Really and truly, I’m under contract, and I fully expect to play football with the Jets next year,” he said. “Until I’m told otherwise, I just expect to be there.”

Tomlinson is set to make $2.4 million in base pay this coming NFL betting lines season.

Not releasing Tomlinson is a very smart move by the Jets organization.

He provides a great sense of experience to the organization, and is also the best possible backup for Shonn Greene.

Additionally, Tomlinson caught a total of 52 passes last season, becoming a very effective safety valve for young quarterback Mark Sanchez.
