Green Bay Packers +1
Atlanta Falcons -1

For the first time in over 3 NFL betting lines months, the Green Bay Packers may have finally found a rusher that can carry them to becoming Super Bowl champions.

With a 6’2”, 218-pound frame, rookie running back James Starks was a great prospect to quickly become one of the league’s top backs. At the NFL Combine, he proved his excellence by performing amongst the top running backs in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, 3-cone drill and others.

However, Starks was only drafted 193rd overall by Green Bay in the 6th round of the 2010 Draft.

The biggest reason he was passed on for 5 rounds may have been his lack of durability. Starks missed his fifth and final year of football at the University of Buffalo because of a shoulder injury.

The Buffalo Bulls’ all-time leading rusher injured his shoulder during a scrimmage in August 2009 and was forced to have it surgically repaired, thus missing the entire 2010 NFL betting lines season.

When his shoulder finally healed in time to play for the Packers, Starks ended up injuring his hamstring in May. It was so severe that it caused Green Bay to place him on the injured/PUP list on August 31st.

Then once leading running back Ryan Grant suffered a right ankle injury, the Packers were left with Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn. Unfortunately, neither of the two was able to shoulder the load and assume the role of a leading rusher.

Throughout the NFL betting lines season, Jackson and Kuhn combined for just 984 yards and 7 touchdowns, giving Green Bay the 24th-ranked rushing offense in the NFL.

While head coach Mike McCarthy desperately wanted to play his promising young back, Starks could only begin to practice after he was removed from the injured/PUP list.

Starks’ first NFL betting lines game was on December 5 against the San Francisco 49ers in which he carried the ball 18 times for 73 yards.

Starks only rushed the ball 11 times in his following 4 games combined, as he perhaps felt some lingering pain in his hamstring.

Nevertheless, the promising young back truly showed off his skills for the first time in last NFL betting lines week’s Wild Card Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last Sunday, Starks carried the ball 23 times for a total of 123 yards (5.3 yards per attempt). Green Bay’s victory was so dependant on his performance that McCarthy called him the “x factor” for the game.

Look for James Starks to show the Packers his appreciation for their patience this NFL betting lines Saturday as he faces Atlanta’s run defense that has allowed an average of over 100 rushing yards all season.

Brett’s Prediction: Green Bay Packers: 28 Atlanta Falcons: 23

Nielson Notice: Aaron Rodgers has the highest passer rating (122.5) of all quarterbacks this postseason.
