NFL Betting Expert Pick: NFC North Bet – Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks

Posted by Marcello Messina on 10/17/2010 12:24:37 AM

Coming off a bye week, Steve Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks are looking to put their Week 3 loss to the Rams aside and defeat the Chicago Bears this North Bet Sunday.

(2-2) Seattle Seahawks at (4-1) Chicago Bears
Live from Soldier Field - IL
Kickoff: 1:00 PM EST Sunday, October 17, 2010
Broadcast: FOX

NorthBet NFL Game Odds:
Seattle Seahawks +6
Chicago Bears -6
Total 37.5

Seattle’s new backfield addition may be exactly what the Seahawks need to rise out of a terrible NFC West conference this season.

Prior to acquiring Lynch, Seattle had been averaging less than 80 rushing yards per game.

The Seahawks front office probably decided they had seen enough when Seattle’s offense totaled just 64 rushing yards against St. Louis in Week 3.

By adding Lynch into the backfield mix, Seattle should finally be able to run the ball with success on first and second downs, setting up shorter third down situations. The Seahawks currently rank second-to-last in total first downs.

Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has not been impressive this year, tossing just four passing touchdowns so far this North Bet season. However, Hasselbeck should see some wholes this week against a relatively poor Chicago pass defense.

The Bears have a mediocre pass defense, allowing 216 yards through the air per game. However, they have surrendered just two passing touchdowns this North Bet season, so it will be interesting to see whether Lynch and Seattle’s running backs get more work in the red zone.

Chicago’s offense, meanwhile, may have a tough time getting anything past a surprisingly strong Seahawks defense.

Jay Cutler is set to return from a concussion injury that kept him out of last week’s matchup versus Carolina. As a result, Chicago head coach Mike Martz will likely be looking to run the ball more often, to allow Cutler to gradually get back into his groove.

Seattle’s defensive unit, however, currently ranks second in the NFL against the run,  giving up just 70 rushing yards to the talented Steven Jackson last week.

With an injured Jay Cutler and lack of a consistent running game, the Bears should fall against a well-rested Seahawks squad.

NFC North Bet Expert Pick: Seattle Seahawks (+6).
