After sustaining three losses by 5 points or less to start their season, the Detroit Lions dominated the Saint Louis Rams this past weekend 44-6. NFC North bet wagerers should have confidence betting on the Detroit Lions as underdogs, as they are now 4-1 ATS this season.

New York Giants -10

The deciding factor of this NFC matchup is whether or not Detroit’s quarterback Shaun Hill can continue his surprisingly efficient run as the Lions starter.

In Matthew Stafford’s absence, Hill has really stepped up to the plate. The 9th-year veteran signal caller has thrown for 1,130 passing yards in four starts this NFC North bet season. Hill is averaging an impressive two touchdowns per game - most in the NFL.

Given the recent resurgence of a Giants defense, a unit that currently is ranked first in the league in pass defense, Hill will need to maintain the same amount of poise and efficiency that he showcased against other top-ranked pass defenses this season.

Playing versus the Eagles (8th overall in pass defense) in Week 2 of this North Bet season, Hill completed 25 passes for a career-high 335 yards and a couple of touchdowns. In Week 3 on the road against the Vikings (7th), he threw for 237 yards and a touchdown.

Hill aptly demonstrated this weekend that he is fully capable of leading this Detroit offense. In the Lions 44-6 defeat of the Rams, the Detroit quarterback was dominant, completing 21 of 32 attempts for 227 yards, 3 touchdowns, and zero interceptions, ending the game with a 117.6 passer rating.

One of the main reasons for the Giants stellar pass defense has been their ability to shut down opposing running backs.

By effectively stopping the ground game with their front seven, New York's defense can a lot an extra player in the secondary to create coverage schemes that make it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to find throwing lanes.

Detroit already has a somewhat stagnant running game, averaging only 82 rushing yards per game.

There may be a major whole in the Lions offense this week against New York due to a shoulder injury that Calvin Johnson sustained last week. However, even when Johnson was sidelined during their game last North Bet Sunday, Shaun Hill provided the Lions with two touchdowns, hooking up with two different receivers.

NFC North Bet Pick: Detroit Lions (+10).
