5 Players That Will Appear On Winning Fantasy Football Teams

Posted by Jackson Anthony on 10/13/2011 12:24:10 AM

Fantasy football is all about value. If you pick players that outperform their initial value, you will do well in your league.

If you pick players that grossly exceed expectations (think Michael Vick in 2010 - undrafted in most leagues) then you will probably win your league.

Based on this notion, we've assembled the top 5 list of the players that, if they are on your roster, you will probably win this year..

1. Matthew Stafford, Lions QB

Originally projected as a top 15 QB, Stafford currently rests among Brees, Brady, and Rodgers for most fantasy points among quarterbacks. He's scoring just 3 less fantasy points per week compared to Drew Brees - who went in the 2nd/3rd round.

2. Cam Newton, Panthers QB

Undrafted in most leagues, Newton was a great early pickup at the onset of the season. He can throw 10 picks in a game and still get you 20 points.

3. Fred Jackson, Bills RB

Nobody saw this coming. With backup RB C.J. Spiller figuring to be a factor in the Bills offense this NFL lines season, fantasy owners were wearing of Jackson.

Those that drafted him (5th/6th round) surely never thought they would have picked up this year's Arian Foster. Jackson currently has the most fantasy points of any RB.

4. Wes Welker, Patriots WR

He's small but he's frickin' awesome. 45 catches and 5 touchdowns through 5 games, Welker has emerged as the do-all guy on the Patriots. With just one game scoring under double digit fantasy points this year, Welker is currently the top-ranked fantasy WR in the NFL.

5. Steve Smith, Panthers WR

Cam Newton made everything better for Steve Smith. His 22.6 yards/catch average is redonkulous and three of five games with over 150 yards receiving is not bad for a guy that was being drafted in the 6th/7th round.
