NBA Playoff Predictions: Nowitzki and Mavericks Keep Winning

Posted by Ashley Carmichael on 5/19/2011 9:20:19 AM

With Dirk Nowitzki leading his Mavericks to an NBA playoff prediction game one 121-112 victory over Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder look to make changes to defend the seemingly unstoppable Nowitzki.

NBA Playoff Predictions
Oklahoma City +5.5
Dallas -5.5
Total 200.5

Nowitzki led all scorers on Tuesday with 48 points while shooting a spectacular 12-15 from the field. Dirk Nowitzki surpassed Paul Pierce’s record of 21 straight free throws made with 22 and set a new record for most points scored in a game while shooting 15 or less shots.

On the other hand, Kevin Durant put up 40 of his own in Game one.  This NBA Playoff prediction year, Kevin Durant leads all players in the postseason averaging 29.8 point per game.  Nowitzki and Durant should present enough excitement alone for the series if they can keep pace.

In Game One, however, Dirk got some help from an unlikely source. Dallas Mavericks guard JJ Barea, who was guarded by the Thunder’s Nate Robinson, went off for 21 points in only sixteen minutes.  Why was Nate Robinson in the game is my question?  Barea has averaged seventeen minutes, scoring 8.9 points in each contest.

Durant said the Thunder will make adjustments in defending Dallas’ high powered offense.  Just know that Dirk is going to get his and the surrounding players will be shut down.  The Thunder defense can allow for Dirk’s outstanding performance just as long as everyone else is contained.

Expect to see a strong performance from the Thunder defense and a closer finish by Durant and his squad.  I take the Thunder in a close one in game two.
