David West’s injury could not have come at a worse time for the New Orleans Hornets.

With only nine games remaining in the Hornets’ season, they lost their star 6’9” power forward. New Orleans is currently seeded in seventh place in the Western Conference. They are only three-and-a-half games above the ninth-seeded Houston Rockets (who by the way, are playing fantastic, having won their last five straight games.)

West was providing his team with excellent production this season, worth every penny of his $8.3 million contract. He was New Orleans’ leading scorer, averaging 18.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Sadly, David West tore his left ACL in New Orleans’ 121-117 overtime win over the Utah Jazz. The injury came after a dunk that tied the game at 103 with 22.5 seconds left in regulation.
Evidently, the entire New Orleans organization is devastated by this occurrence, with general manager Dell Demps being the first one to announce it to the press.

“Obviously we are very saddened by this news,” Demps said. “David is the ultimate warrior and competitor, but an even better person and we know that he will bounce back in time.”
With their star player out for the rest of the year, it seems likely that team will rally against 25-year-old point guard Chris Paul.

Though, it seems highly doubtful that the New Orleans Hornets will make it deep into this year’s playoffs – if they can find a way to keep their postseason hopes alive.
