Posted by Ashley Carmichael on 11/26/2010 9:41:38 AM

Since opening NBA lines night, Monta Ellis has been on fire leading his Golden State Warriors to second place in the Pacific Division.

Ellis had the most points (46) on opening night since Michael Jordan’s 54-point game in 1989, and the young guard is sixth in the league in scoring (25 PPG).

One month into the NBA season, Monta Ellis has two 40-point games and a 39-point performance.  Despite Ellis’ scoring abilities, the Warriors have lost four consecutive games.  During this losing streak Ellis has made only 33 out of 83 shots from the field, shooting a dreadful 39 percent.

Although Ellis has been in a slump over the past week, he still is the league’s sixth leading scorer.  And for the record, of the top ten scorers, Ellis has the highest field goal percentage amongst guards with 48 percent.

This Friday, Ellis and the Warriors play the Memphis Grizzlies. This was the team on November 3rd that Ellis torched for 39 points in a 115-109 victory.  If Ellis can climb out of his slump, then history should repeat itself.

Furthermore, it was evident on November 3rd that Golden State has a defined rebounding advantage over Memphis.  With 48 rebounds compared to the Grizzlies 39, the Warriors dominated the glass.

When Golden State rebounds well, fast break opportunities open up for their highly effective transition game.  The outsized Grizzlies may have difficulties controlling the game.
