The Miami Heat couldn’t have lost their starting point guard at a worse time. Just as the Heat were starting to get back on their feet, their 24-year-old point guard Mario Chalmers went down with an injury to his right knee.

ESPN reports that Chalmers sustained the injury in the first quarter of Saturday’s home victory against the Denver Nuggets when he landed awkwardly. He was helped off the court by Heat teammates and was scheduled to have an MRI test on Sunday.

According to test results, there was no severe damage to his knee, though, the 2-year-pro could miss as much as two weeks (half of Miami’s remaining NBA lines games).
With the season coming to a close and Miami already securing a playoff spot, the Heat’s organization did not want to take any chances and force Chalmers back onto the court unnecessarily.

Miami will keep him sidelined for the full two weeks so that he will be in full throttle when the postseason arrives.

Without Mario Chalmers on the court, Miami might be left with a lack of chemistry for their next six games or so.

However, veteran point guard Mike Bibby (who was signed by the Heat two weeks ago) will provide Miami with enough organization that they won’t be missing Chalmers too much.
