The New Jersey Nets’ elite point guard Deron Williams nearly missed out on the rest of this season because of a wrist injury.

Williams injured his wrist in the Nets-Bucks matchup on Friday, March 18. At the time of the injury, New Jersey had not known its severity and actually debated cutting Deron’s season early.

However, through further tests and early signs of improvement, Williams’ wrist appears as though it should fully recover in less than a week. So, Nets general manager Billy King and coach Avery Johnson decided to sit 5-year-pro for three full games and then evaluate his progress.

“While sitting out the rest of the season was also a possibility, Williams decided against it because of his desire to play and help the Nets reach the playoffs” (Chris Broussard, ESPN).
New Jersey currently sits in 12th place in the Easter Conference, but only seven games behind the eight-seeded Indiana Pacers. Sixteen games remain in the Nets’ schedule for this season.

Messina Mouthful: The New Jersey Nets should crumble in the absence of Deron Williams during their next three games. Expect a dip in performance during the first few NBA lines games when he returns, too.
