The Philadelphia Eagles will be hoping that this NFL lines match will be the start of something special, as the team appears to have substantial strength to win their first ever Super Bowl this season.
The Eagles entered into last post-season with a certain degree of promise, winning the NFC East title with a 10-6 NFL lines record, in parallel with the re-emergence of Michael Vick as a premier quarterback. Their Super Bowl hopes, however, were quickly squashed after losing to eventual champs – Green Bay – in their first postseason game.
To help them attain that next step of winning a championship, the Eagles organization signed All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Consequently, Philadelphia now holds the strongest defensive back corps in the NFL, with the combination of Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Furthermore, the Eagles have also added defensive end Jason Babins, wide receiver Steve Smith, running back Ronnie Brown and quarterback Vince Young to their roster this NFL lines offseason, addressing various parts of their squad that needed some reinforcements.
These new additions will team up well with Eagles’ stars Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy, forming a powerful concoction of talent that has considerably raised expectations in Philadelphia for this upcoming NFL lines season.
However, the Eagles will not be facing any pushovers in Week 1 in this 2011 edition of the St. Louis Rams. Although finishing with a losing record of 7-9 last year, the Rams significantly improved their play along the course of the season, eventually only missing out on a playoff spot because of a tiebreaker after losing 16-6 in Seattle during Week 17.
The Rams have made some significant additions of their own this past off-season, including guard Harry Dahl, receiver Mike Sims-Walker, and rookie tight end Lance Kendricks from whom much is expected.
Don’t expect this matchup to be as easy for the Philadelphia Eagles as most people think. St. Louis is out to prove that they are no longer the joke of the NFC West, and they believe that starts with a tough NFL lines matchup against the Eagles in Week 1.
Marcello’s Prediction: St. Louis Rams: 17, Philadelphia Eagles: 14
Messina Mention: The Philadelphia Eagles have won three of the last four matchups between these two teams, winning the last game in Philadelphia 38-3 on September 7, 2008.
NFL Expert Pick: St. Louis Rams -4.5
