Wisconsin’s last Rose Bowl berth was in 2000, when they defeated the Stanford Cardinal 17-9 behind bruising running back and Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne.
This season, however the Badgers haven’t had to depend on just one tailback to lead them to a BCS Bowl. The combination of 2009 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year John Clay, freshman James White, and sophomore Montee Ball has helped lead Wisconsin to an average of 239.9 yards per game (12th in the nation).
Clay, White, and Ball are the only running back trio in the country to each have accumulated 500 yards on the ground this college football betting lines season.
The Northwester Wildcats had a strong start to their season, winning their first five games. However, close losses against Purdue and Michigan State left the Wildcats 1-2 in the Big Ten at the beginning of conference play.
Northwestern has shown the ability to play at a high level this year, with an unexpected 21-17 victory coming against then-No. 13 Iowa two weeks ago.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats have hardly brought their best play on the road. Northwestern is 1-4 ATS when playing away.
Wisconsin will have John Clay returning to the lineup this weekend, to create a 1-2-3 punch in the Badgers backfield. Fueled by their home crowd in Camp Randall, expect Wisconsin to wear down Northwestern and pull away in the second half.
