NBA Lines: NBA Stars Overseas
With the NBA Lockout destroying the image of the NBA, many players have already hopped on the bandwagon, heading overseas.
Checkout ex-Denver Nugget guard J.R. Smith playing in his first China professional game (Sorry about the quality):
This seems like a good idea for players, who are just sitting around waiting for an “NBA season.”
Notable players like Deron Williams, Leandro Barbosa, and Danilo Gallinari have already joined teams in Europe. Europe is the best option for these stars because the Euro-leagues are offering limited contracts (allowing players to leave if/when NBA ball resumes).
However, leagues in China are not allowing players to opt out and go back. So the NBA may not see players like J.R. Smith for a while.
With the lockout lingering and no solution in sight, many all-stars are tempted to head over to Euro-leagues.
Dwyane Wade has expressed interest, Dirk Nowitzki is looking for teams and Kevin Durant is in the midst of signing a big deal in Europe.
This would be a big blow to the NBA market; how can owners just sit there and watch their players walk out like that?
It is about time owners reach an agreement with the players, or the NBA will never be the same again.
